BMW has announced the all-new fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the BMW iX3. As the brand’s first “Neue Klasse” (New Class) model, it features a completely new design language, sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, an 800V high-voltage architecture, and a new digital cockpit concept — delivering significant advances in efficiency, intelligence, and driving experience.
The new BMW iX3 measures 4,782 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height, with a 2,897 mm wheelbase that combines elegance with a sporty stance. At the front, a vertically oriented illuminated double-kidney grille is paired with horizontal headlights, large air intakes, and a black front apron, underscoring the dynamic character of the X family. At the rear, multi-layered lighting creates the classic “L”-shaped light signature. Practicality is strong: boot capacity is 520 litres, expanding to 1,750 litres with the rear seats folded, while an additional 58-litre storage compartment is located under the bonnet.
Inside, the cabin is powered by BMW Operating System X and the new BMW Panoramic iDrive. It integrates a multifunction steering wheel, BMW Panoramic Vision, and an optional 3D head-up display for a minimalist yet intuitive interface. The new multifunction steering wheel features backlighting, embossed surfaces, and haptic feedback. Drivers can personalise the 65-colour ambient lighting via “My Modes.” The system supports streaming services including Spotify, Disney+, and YouTube, and introduces Zoom video calling for the first time.
Range of up to 805 km
Taking the BMW iX3 50 xDrive as an example, sixth-generation eDrive technology delivers 345 kW (469 hp) and 645 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h. Supported by the 800V architecture, WLTP range reaches a maximum of 805 km. Peak charging power of up to 400 kW enables approximately 372 km of range from a 10-minute charge under ideal conditions, while a 10–80% charge takes just 21 minutes. The vehicle also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bidirectional charging, allowing it to power external electrical devices.
On the driving dynamics side, the newly developed “Heart of Joy” central control unit processes information ten times faster than conventional systems. It coordinates power, braking, steering, and energy recuperation in milliseconds. In everyday driving, up to 98% of braking can be handled by recuperation, complemented by a “Soft Stop” function for smooth deceleration. Assisted driving is provided by BMW Symbiotic Drive, which allows the driver to intervene freely while the system is active. Standard equipment includes Driving Assistant Plus and Parking Assistant Professional, supporting one-touch automated parking and parking space search.
