The inaugural “Hong Kong Comic Con” took place over three days at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event boasted an impressive lineup, featuring international stars such as Danish acting legend Mads Mikkelsen, Jamie Campbell Bower, and popular Korean actor Byeon Woo-seok. Rare collectibles and models from top global IPs were on display, drawing huge crowds of fans and anime enthusiasts.
Local Animation “ODIUM ZERO” Holds Global Launch
On the second day, the locally produced original animated film “ODIUM ZERO”, directed by
James Hung, held its global press launch at the venue. Set in a dystopian future, the story follows a world where humanity has been infected and mutated into monsters. The surviving humans must struggle to stay alive while banding together to uncover and confront a web of lies.
Director James Hung revealed at the event that if the film receives a strong reception upon release, the team plans to expand “ODIUM ZERO” into a full-scale IP. This would include merchandise such as toys, comics, and even a potential live-action film adaptation.
Voice Cast Shows Strong Support
Several lead voice actors also attended to show their support. TV Queen Ali Lee (李佳芯) voices the 16-year-old protagonist “May”. Ali admitted that voicing the character was quite challenging. Unlike live-action dubbing, where she can reference the actor’s facial expressions, animating this role required her to fully rely on the script and imagine the character’s emotions from scratch.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey Ngai (魏浚笙), who voices the Disaster Response Unit commander , deliberately adopted a deeper, huskier, and more world-weary tone for the role. True to his fun-loving personality, Jeffrey joked that he has “chuunibyou” (middle-school syndrome), which made the voice acting process effortless for him.
