Generative AI continues to surge in popularity and is increasingly integrating with commercial applications. The “Hong Kong-made” AI intelligent assistant “HKChat” (港話通), developed by the Hong Kong Generative AI Research Centre (HKGAI), has officially announced a strategic partnership with JD.com’s local retail chain, JD Kai Bo Food Supermarket (京東佳寶超市).

Leveraging their respective core strengths, the two parties will engage in deep collaboration across three key dimensions — user growth, service enhancement, and technology integration. The partnership aims to drive the profound fusion of AI and retail scenarios, delivering a more convenient and intelligent consumption and service experience for Hong Kong citizens, while jointly supporting the digital transformation of the local retail industry.

“HKChat” is a locally developed AI chatbot in Hong Kong with over 720,000 registered users. Its unique advantage lies in its bilingual and trilingual knowledge base (Chinese and English, covering Cantonese, Mandarin, and English), which enables highly efficient and natural intelligent interactions. JD Kai Bo Food Supermarket, which has been deeply rooted in Hong Kong’s retail market for nearly 30 years, has already established a solid foundation in its “new retail” strategy that integrates online and offline channels. This collaboration marks a significant step in realising resource complementarity between the two parties and jointly building a new “AI + Retail” ecosystem.

The strategic partnership focuses on three core areas:

1. Mutual User Empowerment

Both parties will utilise their respective user bases and channel advantages to drive new user growth for each other, achieving precise customer segment complementarity and expanding overall market reach.

2. Integration of Loyalty Point Systems

The two platforms will fully interconnect their loyalty point systems, enabling bidirectional point exchange. Users will enjoy greater consumption benefits and convenient privileges, thereby enhancing customer loyalty.

3. Technology and Scenario Integration

“HKChat” will provide its mature intelligent conversation technology to comprehensively upgrade JD Kai Bo Food Supermarket’s AI-powered shopping features. Users will be able to complete product inquiries, order placement, and consultations through natural language interactions, significantly improving shopping efficiency and overall experience.

This strategic cooperation represents an important milestone for “HKChat” in transforming research outcomes into market applications and expanding AI use cases. It is also a key initiative for JD Kai Bo Food Supermarket to accelerate its digital upgrade and strengthen its service competitiveness.

Centered on user needs, the partnership will deeply combine “HKChat”’s technological strengths with JD Kai Bo Food Supermarket’s retail expertise. This will not only deliver a dual experience of “intelligent interaction and convenient consumption” to users, but also continue to explore innovative application models of AI technology in the retail sector.
