Hong Kong’s technology sector continues to gain international recognition. Recently, the locally developed “HazardBot” — an autonomous transformable wheel-legged inspection robot — won the “2026 Edison Awards Bronze Medal”. The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) announced that it has implemented more than 1,400 technology projects over the past year, helping both local and Mainland enterprises upgrade to high-value industries. Demand from companies seeking to expand overseas has reached an all-time high, and HKPC will continue to support them in reaching the global stage.
In its review of the past year’s achievements, HKPC highlighted its efforts to internationalize Hong Kong’s innovation and technology ecosystem. Key successes include “HazardBot”, which secured the 2026 Edison Awards Bronze, and “LanePilot”, an automatic driving navigation technology using high-precision 3D positioning, which won the 2026 AI Excellence Awards. Both accolades underscore the international recognition of Hong Kong’s R&D capabilities.
HKPC Chairman Hon Sunny TAN noted that since the establishment of the “The Cradle Going Global Service Centre” in April last year, the centre has received over 500 enquiries and provided one-stop support — including compliance assessment, intelligent manufacturing, testing and certification, and on-site inspections — to more than 300 projects. HKPC Executive Director Mohamed D. BUTT added that these services have helped Mainland enterprises successfully align with international and Hong Kong standards.
Looking ahead, HKPC will collaborate with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to organize more outbound missions to the Middle East, Europe, and ASEAN countries to further strengthen international connections.
Long-term Positioning in the Northern Metropolis
In advancing “New Industrialisation”, HKPC has supported the setup of 25 new intelligent production lines this year through government funding schemes (NIAS and NIFS), bringing the total to 81 lines.
Chairman Hon Sunny TAN also outlined long-term plans to align with the development of the “Northern Metropolis”. HKPC will maintain close communication with the HKSAR Government and will actively invest and deploy resources at the appropriate time to meet the needs of core industrial parks in areas such as **Hung Shui Kiu, San Tin, and the Loop, thereby strengthening Hong Kong’s innovation and technology industrial chain.
