The annual flagship event “Hong Kong ToyCar Salon 2026”, organised by the local model-car culture platform HKTOYCAR (手推車) and presented by Market Hubs (三公控股), is being held over three days at the Grand Ballroom of Hopewell Hotel in Wan Chai. This year’s edition reaches a new high in scale, bringing together more than 60 top model brands from around the world. For the first time, it combines 1:1 classic JDM modified real cars, aviation and railway models, and cross-over trendy collectibles. The event is expected to attract over 40,000 local and overseas buyers and car enthusiasts, injecting strong consumer momentum into nearby hotels, dining, and retail sectors, and showcasing the dynamism of Hong Kong’s “mega-event economy”.
Rise of the “Kidult” Nostalgia Economy
The opening ceremony was officiated by heavyweight guests including Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Dr Bernard Chan and Legislative Council member Mr Shiu Ka-fai. Curator and Managing Director of Market Hubs, Lierence Li, noted that with the rapid rise of the “Kidult” (adults with a childlike heart) market, many financially capable adults are now willing to spend on childhood nostalgia.
Lierence pointed out that more than half of the world’s top ten leading 1:64 model brands originate from Hong Kong and Macao. Hong Kong brands have established a significant position in the international market through the mature model of “Hong Kong design, precision manufacturing in the Greater Bay Area, and global marketing”. The exhibition also features dedicated business-matching sessions, leveraging Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” to help mainland and local brands expand into export markets in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and South America.
Must-Grab Limited and Exclusive First-Release Models
This year’s salon spans seven major origins — Japan, the United States, Germany, France, mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao — and includes classic major brands such as Majorette and Hot Wheels. In addition to showcasing innovative cross-over products, numerous limited-edition and venue-exclusive first-release model cars are available for on-site purchase, offering enthusiasts a major treasure-hunting opportunity.
