K11 Musea in Tsim Sha Tsui has welcomed another buzz-worthy dining destination. The brand-new Japanese restaurant AOI By KAIYŌ has officially opened on the 4th floor. The space features a simple yet warm wooden design that blends contemporary aesthetics with traditional Japanese details. Delicate ukiyo-e wave patterns adorn the walls as a tribute to Japan’s rich fishing culture and fresh seafood, while soft Japanese-style translucent screens create a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

AOI by KAIYŌ is a new Japanese dining concept under the Gaia Group. It reinterprets modern izakaya culture in a youthful, relaxed and lively way. As the younger sibling of KAIYŌ, AOI inherits the same dedication to Japanese culinary craftsmanship and premium ingredients, while offering them at more approachable prices. Interactive DIY dishes and eye-catching plating transform the restaurant into a next-generation gathering spot — perfect for after-work drinks or weekend catch-ups with friends.

The menu spans more than 20 categories and over 100 dishes, ranging from fresh sashimi and creative sushi to charcoal-grilled items, stone-pot dishes, tempura and Kansai-style sukiyaki. Both hot and cold options are plentiful. Premium ingredients such as the restaurant’s own caviar, sea urchin, otoro (tuna belly), wagyu and seasonal seafood appear throughout the menu. Rather than taking a formal fine-dining approach, the dishes are designed for sharing, hands-on assembly and interactive enjoyment.

The name “AOI” means “blue” in Japanese and draws inspiration from the flowing waves and shifting colours of the ocean, continuing the core concept of KAIYŌ (which means “ocean”). Even the letters of “AOI” are taken from “KAIYŌ,” reflecting the shared DNA between the two brands. On this foundation, AOI has developed a younger, more accessible personality tailored to a new generation of diners.

Must-try dishes:

  • Double Caviar & Sea Urchin Otoro Crystal Cup – $148 Dainty and refined — ideal for those who prefer smaller, elegant portions.
  • Supreme Otoro Roe Luxury Box – $268 Impressive presentation with a sense of ceremony. Enjoy at your own pace without worrying about the nori becoming soggy. Comes with a full box of luxurious caviar that you can freely pair with the perfectly seasoned otoro roe.
  • Premium Tempura Set – $248 Crispy tempura, including large shiso leaf tempura paired with fresh sea urchin to balance its richness. The set includes rice, soup, pickles and salad — generous and satisfying.
  • Kansai-Style Premium Nagasaki Wagyu Sirloin Sukiyaki – $268 Features Nagasaki wagyu sirloin with beautiful marbling. Lightly seared then dipped in egg, the meat is incredibly tender and melts in the mouth, delivering rich fat and deep beef flavour with every bite. Fresh vegetables are added at the end for a complete and hearty meal. Several sukiyaki options are available, starting from just $168.
  • Premium Sea Urchin, Caviar & Otoro Sushi Napoleon – $168 One of the most creative must-orders. Inspired by the French Napoleon pastry, this dish breaks traditional sushi boundaries. Layers of sweet sea urchin, luxurious caviar, silky avocado and otoro create an exceptional multi-textured experience.
