Wellcome has been embracing nostalgic Old Hong Kong elements in recent years, and two of its stores have now been transformed with brand-new themed experiences. The Kennedy Town Victoria Road branch draws inspiration from 1990s tram memories, using the iconic “ding ding” to capture the rhythm of everyday life on Hong Kong Island. Meanwhile, the Mong Kok Sim City branch takes cues from street-side “dai pai dong” and “cha chaan teng” culture, showcasing the city’s vibrant, down-to-earth spirit. Together, these dual nostalgic concepts are complemented by popular souvenirs and brand collaborations, inviting both locals and visitors to relive Hong Kong’s golden years.
Wellcome Time Machine: Stop 1 — Kennedy Town Victoria Road Store
Reimagined with a nostalgic concept, the Kennedy Town Victoria Road store features a tram-themed design that evokes some of Hong Kong’s most cherished collective memories. In the city, trams are more than just a mode of transport—they serve as a bridge connecting communities, much like Wellcome has long been part of everyday life. From parents taking their children grocery shopping before riding the tram home, to students grabbing ice cream after school and squeezing onto a “ding ding” filled with laughter—each journey reflects the pure and unforgettable moments of growing up.

To bring this tram nostalgia into daily life, the store features multiple photo-worthy spots. The interior is styled in classic tram green and soft yellow hues, while tram tracks are printed across the floor, allowing customers to push their shopping carts along the tram as if travelling through the streets of old Hong Kong.
Extending this shared memory beyond the store, a specially designed nostalgic Wellcome tram will run across Hong Kong Island from 8 June to 11 July 2026. Decorated inside and out with retro elements, the tram becomes a “moving memory gallery,” inviting the public to relive the city’s collective past.
Wellcome Time Machine: Stop 2 — Mong Kok Sim City Store
Located in the heart of Mong Kok, the newly revamped Sim City store presents a nostalgic take on Hong Kong’s street culture, featuring “dai pai dong” and “cha chaan teng” influences. From the ground floor to the basement entrance, classic red-and-yellow Wellcome signage is prominently displayed, while stairway walls are adorned with photographs of Nathan Road’s bustling night scenes from the 1980s and 1990s. A variety of playful photo installations make it an engaging hotspot for couples, families, and friends, instantly transporting visitors to the city’s vibrant past.

Another highlight is the in-store “Wellcome Dai Pai Dong,” a tribute to Hong Kong’s rich culinary heritage. The setup includes nostalgic kerosene stoves and lamps, alongside signature Hong Kong-style milk tea—hallmarks of “cha chaan teng、 culture. Every detail is carefully curated to recreate the lively atmosphere of traditional street eateries, allowing customers to savour local food memories while shopping. A retro spring-loaded table football-style game is also available, with customers invited to play upon any purchase, bringing back the joy of simpler times.
