Global language-learning platform Duolingo has teamed up with Lianhua Subdistrict in Shenzhen’s Futian district to launch a themed pop-up along the city’s central axis. Running until the end of November, the event features giant installations of its green owl mascot, Duo, in a range of playful poses across several locations.
Five photo spots to explore
- Shenzhen Book City Central Store Plaza | Chess Duo
An eight-metre chessboard turns Duo into a giant chess piece, with visitors welcome to step onto the board for photos. - Shenzhen Book City Central Store Plaza | Duo Wants You to Study
A giant inflatable Duo waves to passers-by, offering a larger-than-life reminder to keep up with their learning. - Outside Zimo Bookstore, Lianhuashan Park | Duo’s Surprise Study Check
Duo catches visitors “slacking off” in a playful installation inspired by its persistent study reminders. - Outside Maan Coffee | Sulky Duo
Sporting a sulky expression, Duo waits for visitors to stop by for a photo and cheer it up. - Secret location | Tearful Duo
A fifth installation is still under construction, with its location yet to be revealed.
Limited-edition merchandise up for grabs
Until October 15, visitors who share photos of the installations on Xiaohongshu using the designated hashtags will have a chance to win exclusive, limited-edition merchandise.
The organisers remind visitors to take care when posing for photos and not to climb on the installations.
